New South Wales Institute of Sport

The NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS) is a leading high performance sport Institute that provides world class coaching, services, and flexible innovative training environments. In conjunction with a holistic approach to athlete welfare, career and educational assistance the NSWIS supports and develops targeted elite and emerging athletes to achieve their highest potential.

Located at Sydney Olympic Park, home of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, the Institute has over 700 high performance athletes on squad or individual scholarships and offers 31 sport programs across 24 sports.

In total, 91 NSWIS athletes have contributed to 126 medals at the Olympic Games from Atlanta 1996 to Vancouver 2010. Most recently, at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, NSWIS scholarship holder Torah Bright won gold in the women’s snowboard half-pipe, marking the Institute’s first medal at a Winter Olympic Games.

At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games the NSWIS was well represented with 85 athletes selected on the Olympic team. NSWIS Olympians brought home three gold, four silver and five bronze medals, including Matthew Mitcham’s stunning diving gold in the men’s 10m platform.

Under the innovative Mobile/Regional program, the NSWIS offers a comprehensive spectrum of support services to NSWIS athletes in their home environment, enabling them to pursue their sporting careers with minimal disruption to their family, education and employment.

The Institute’s Principal Partner is ClubsNSW, who provides $1 million a year in sponsorship support.
