TEAM: The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) has accepted an invitation to send a Team to compete in the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea.
The following is a report card on each Olympic sport from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland after the 10 days of competition, courtesy of AAP.
WEIGHTLIFTING: The Australian weightlifters competing at the Oceania Championships had impressive competitions, especially from the strong women's team which included Olympians Seen Lee and Deborah Acason.
AOC: Australian athletes and administrators have played a pivotal role in the Olympic Movement for 120 years.
WEIGHTLIFTING: So what races through the mind of a 17-year-old, as he stands quivering on a platform, somehow keeping 117 kilograms hoisted above his head, knowing he’d just secured a bronze medal?
AOC: Olympic sports, the AOC and AIS need to address “culture and Team values” as they prepare athletes for the 2016 Games in Rio.
IOC: On 12 February, 2013, the Executive Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) agreed on the 25 sports it will propose to the 125th IOC Session for approval as the core sports for the 2020 Summer Olympic Games.
I congratulate the Australian Crime Commission and the Federal Government for the stance they have taken because as far as cheating in sport goes the “gloves are now off”, we now have the powers to properly investigate doping and match fixing.
