2015 Active Youth Development Program (AYDP)

A series of Active Youth Development Programs are being conducted throughout the state (refer below for more details). The AYDP is funded by the Department of Sport and Recreation. The four objectives are to:

  1. Connect Olympians with the community to inspire participation in sport.
  2. Connect schools and students with local clubs to foster an ongoing relationship.
  3. Empower teachers with the tools needed to conduct the program with minimal support by the Victorian Olympic Council.
  4. Increase participation in sport.

Each program is conducted over the course of a day. During the morning, each student is coached in their preferred sport, coming away with a special tip from an Olympian; to inspire and motivate them to achieve their full potential.

The sports are based on those that can be resourced at the host school or venue. Past sports on offer include basketball, volleyball, athletics, table tennis, badminton, swimming, sailing, soccer, hockey and rowing. Once the sports are determined the VOC enlists the support of Olympians to coach and inspire the students.

During the day participants learn about the A.S.P.I.R.E Olympic values. Local clubs are also engaged to present to the students and recruit members through a local clubs expo.
