The South Australian Olympic Council, located within the Office for Recreation and Sport, has three main functions; to raise funds for the Australian Olympic Team, promote Olympic Education in schools, and support Olympic Alumni including the Olympians Club of SA.
The SA Olympic Council also administers the SA Games Appeal Committee, which raises funds for the Australian Team competing at Olympic, Commonwealth and Paralympic Games. This Committee was established in 1994 to raise funds for Sydney 2000, such was the success of this Committee that post Sydney the fundraising continued and the 2 other Games Associations were included within the Appeals.
Australia enjoys an outstanding Olympic history, and as a state South Australia can be proud of a number of home-grown Olympic champions. The Australian Olympic Committee is committed to promoting the Olympic values such as respect, aspiration and team work – the SA Olympic Council works with the AOC to provide local opportunities to deliver these messages.
