Winter Olympians Honoured

Australia's winter Olympians and Paralympians from the Torino Games were honoured at a reception in Sydney on Friday night with gold medallist Dale Begg-Smith vowing to aim for more glory in 2010.

Begg-Smith has his sights on the Games in Vancouver in Canada, where he was born, in 2010 after winning moguls gold for his adopted country in Torino in February.

The 21-year-old internet millionaire made a flying two-day visit from Australia's camp in Whistler, Colorado for the Team Reception hosted by AOC president John Coates.

The World No.1 heads back to the US on the weekend but plans to return to Australia to train for part of the winter.

"I'll be coming down in the Australian winter, I'll be watching for when the snow comes," he said.

He will barely spend more than a few months at home in Melbourne in 2006 as he travels the world training and competing at the start of a gruelling four year program.

"I'm not planning on taking any time off, I'm planing on going through the four years," he said.

Begg-Smith and aerials bronze medallist Alisa Camplin were presented with International Olympic Committee medallist pins, with the rest of Australia's Olympic and Paralympic Team members also honoured.

Thirty-eight of Australia's 40-strong Torino team were in attendance as were nine Paralympians.

Downhill silver medallist and world record speed skier Michael Milton and super-G bronze medallist Toby Kane were given special distinction.
