Successful tour for Aussie Spirit

8 June 2007

The Australian Women’s Softball team, Aussie Spirit, defeated the Netherlands in a five game series in May winning four of the five games played.

The Australians, who qualified for the Beijing Olympics at last year’s World Championships, finished the tour with two good wins to secure the series.

In game four, it took Australia just five innings to defeat the Netherlands 8-0.

The Australian pitchers only gave up only one hit each until the fourth innings, and superb batting resulted in five runs scored off the first four hits.

Australia’s utility, Sandra Allen showed her strength behind the plate hitting a home-run to left field, scoring Tracey Mosley and adding to Australia’s growing tally.

Kelly Hardie pitched the win for Australia giving up two hits and three strikes. In the last game of the series, Australian batters were again instrumental scoring 6-1.

Kate Judd got the first run on the board for Australia with a home-run over left field. Kym Tollenarere got on base by a fielding error and was moved around the bases to score Australia’s second run.

A three run home-run by Stacey Porter, who scored Kylie Cronk and Danielle Stewart, helped Australia to seal the game. Jocelyn McCallum pitched the win for Australia giving up one run and five strike-outs.

The next challenge for the Australian will be the Canada Cup from June 25 – 13 July where they try for a third straight crown.
