Stolen Olympic gear found in Queensland

15 February 2017

Police are hoping to reunite a number of Olympic and Commonwealth Games uniforms with their rightful owner after they were found in a stolen car on the Gold Coast.

Last year, the allegedly stolen vehicle was located in Merrimac and a man was arrested and charged in relation to the matter.

The vehicle contained three Australian Olympic team issue luggage bags which did not belong to the vehicle owner or the alleged offender.

Inside the suitcases were Australian team uniforms including tracksuits, shorts, shirts, singlets and Australian Team issued Nike shoes.

Some of the items include team uniforms from the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and the Kuala Lumpur 1998 Commonwealth Games as well as items that appear to have been gifts from other athletes at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games including Team USA clothing.

There was also a distinctive Team Victoria Little Athletics jacket in one of the suitcases which appears to have been signed by Linford Christie, a Jamaican Olympic gold medallist.

The Australian Olympic Committee has been informed.

Anyone who believes these items might be theirs or that they belong to a family or friend should contact Policelink on 131 444 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
