Channel 7's Inside Volleyball to air in December

25 November 2016

VOLLEYBALL: The incredible growth of beach and indoor volleyball Australia is set to be rewarded with confirmation this week of a new weekly television show on the Seven Network.

The weekly half-hour program, Inside Volleyball, will begin on Sunday, December 4, and will be screened on 7TWO. It will be hosted by experienced Olympic commentator, Jonathan Fogarty, and include Australia’s best past and present players.

The show will feature highlights from Australia’s helloworld indoor and beach Volleyroo teams, as well as the best action from around the world.

“This is a great vote of confidence from the Seven Network in our fantastic beach and indoor volleyball teams,” Volleyball Australia’s Chief Commercial Officer, Rod Harys, said.

“There are so many sports in Australia vying for media attention, so to have a commitment to screen a weekly program focusing on our helloworld Volleyroos is a great boost for everyone involved.

“It is also a wonderful reward for our sponsors, like Gina Rinehart and helloworld, who have helped our athletes achieve their dreams.”

The announcement comes ahead of a busy 2017 for volleyball, with Australia set to host a round of the world-class beach volleyball World Tour, as well as the finals of the prestigious men’s indoor World League and women’s World Grand Prix.

Volleyball can also boast an enviable record attracting sponsors.

“At a time when most Australian sports are struggling to hold on to sponsors, let alone attract new ones, Volleyball Australia has been an incredible success story,” Volleyball Australia President, Craig Carracher, said.

“Our numbers speak for themselves. We have grown from a $3m annual turnover two years ago to $9m in 2015/16, which is even more impressive when you compare with most other national sporting organisations.

“A weekly panel show on a free-to-air channel is the next stage of our evolution. Channel 7 is the perfect fit, given our common Olympic pedigree, and it will help us find new partners as well as introduce our sport to new fans.

“This is the norm around the rest of the world, where volleyball is incredibly popular. We are doing everything we can to catch up and bring the global profile to Australia.”

Seven’s Head of Sport, Saul Shtein, welcomed today’s agreement.

“Seven is delighted to showcase volleyball,” he said.

“We will see our teams competing with the best in the world, and we are delighted to become a partner with Volleyball Australia.”

Inside Volleyball will run for 25 episodes, beginning Sunday, December 4, at 930am on 7TWO.
