2nd Pole Vaulter joins AOC Athletes' Commission

AOC: Pole Vaulter, Alana Boyd, has been appointed to the Australian Olympic Committee’s Athletes’ Commission replacing cyclist Stuart O’Grady.

Boyd is a dual Olympian having competed in Beijing 2008 and London 2012. She is the daughter of Olympians Ray and Denise Boyd.

Her father won 12 Australian pole vault titles and her mother Denise (Robertson) was an outstanding sprinter.

Alana started in athletics at aged 10 competing in high jump but later switched to pole vault under Coach Alex Parnov in Perth.

She is a Bachelor of Business Management and joins fellow pole vaulter, Steve Hooker, on the AOC Athletes’ Commission which now comprises six women and four men.

“We are confident Alana will make a great contribution to the Athletes’ Commission” said AOC Secretary-General Craig Phillips.

Other members of the Athletes’ Commission include Kim Crow (rowing) Ken Wallace (canoeing) Anna Meares (cycling) Lauren Mitchell (gymnastics) Loudy Wiggins (diving) James Tomkins (rowing) Jenny Owens (freestyle skiing) and Paul Murray (cross-country skiing).
