After a week of extreme snow that saw the freestyle skiing and snowboarding venue of Kühtai closed completely, it opened for training today in perfect conditions ahead of this weekend’s Youth Olympic competition.

Australia’s Winter Youth Olympic Team arrived in Innsbruck, Austria from places as varied as Colorado, Townsville and the Italian slopes. Their final destination: the Youth Olympic Village, home to 1,059 athletes from over 60 countries for the inaugural Winter Youth Olympic Games.

The 2012 Australian Winter Youth Olympic Team is lucky enough to have dual Olympic medallist Alisa Camplin leading them as Chef de Mission. Winter Youth Olympic Torch Relay passes through Innsbruck for the first time on 29 December 2011. It will return after travelling around Austria for the Opening Ceremony on 13 January.
