The Helsinki badge was worn by dignitaries and VIP guests during the 1952 Olympic Games. The emblem features the tower of the stadium with the Olympic rings.
Equestrian for women
The competition rules were changed for the Helsinki Games to allow women to compete in equestrian- indeed, women were to compete alongside men. Lis Hartel was one of the first ever female equestrian compeitors. The Dane was paralyed below the knees and had to be helped off her horse. Nonetheless, she won silver for Denmark in the dressage.
