Silver sailing for Outteridge and Jensen

19 August 2016

SAILING: Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen have sailed superbly in the medal race at the Rio Olympic Games to claim the silver medal at Marina da Gloria.

The defending champions started the day in third and needed to finish a few places clear of the German crew to move to second spot on the podium.

The Australians controlled the race well and crossed the line of the medal race, worth double points, in fourth place with the Germans back in eighth.

The gold medal was won by the New Zealand crew who dominated in the regatta.

The silver in the 49er class comes on the same day as Mathew Belcher and Will Ryan won silver in the 470 class. Earlier at the Olympic Games Tom Burton won gold in the Laser Class and cousin Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darmamin in the Nacra 17 Mixed.
