Aussie Spirit win bronze in Beijing

The Australian Open Women’s team, Aussie Spirit, have won bronze at the ISF XI Women’s World Championship in Beijing, China, cementing a spot in the 2008 Olympic Games.

Australia lost the final 5-1 to the USA to claim the bronze. The Americans progressed to the Grand Final where they shut out Japan, 3-0, to avenge a loss from the day before and win the gold medal.

Stacey Porter opened up the scoring against the US in the top of the first inning with a long ball home run over the right field.

In a tight game, the USA came back with some solid batting scoring a run in the bottom of the second and four more runs later in the match to earn them a place in the gold medal match.
