London facilities on the Mark

20 July 2012

SHOOTING: Russell Mark has seen a bit in his time as an Olympian. The 48 year-old who takes to the range for the 6th time as an Olympian in London, believes the facilities in place in the English capital are the best he has experienced.

“The Village is terrific, the best I have stayed at, and I think the facilities are just ideal,” Mark said.

And while the London weather has created its fair share of interruptions and challenges to competitors, Mark believes, for his sport of shooting, it will level out the field.

“The Europeans aren’t used to shooting in such windy conditions, and throw in a bit of rain, well it really makes it a lottery”.

“What it is going to mean is that whoever copes with the conditions best on the day will walk away with a gold medal – and they would have earned it.”

“There’ll be no such thing as someone claiming a medal who hasn’t mastered the conditions,” he added.

Mark, a gold medallist in Atlanta in 1996, is in good form heading into the Games after shooting a new Australian record earlier in the year with a new and improved firearm.

The shooting program commences on the opening day of Games competition on Saturday July 28.
