Freestyle Skier Samantha Wells made her Olympic debut as part of the Australian powerhouse Aerials team at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. In the first qualification jump, 24-year-old Wells ranked seventh and just missed progressing straight to the final rounds by less than one point. In the second qualification, Wells missed her landing and watched her shot at a finals berth slip away, finishing 18th overall.
Wells first competed on the World Cup circuit in January 2012 and remarkably finished that season with a World Cup ranking of 13th. In March, 2013, Wells placed sixth at the World Championships in Norway - her best result of the season - following on from a ninth place at the Sochi Test Event.
A former national level gymnast, a complete rupture of her Achilles tendon ended her Gymnastics career. Skiing since she was nine, Wells was recruited by Olympian Jacqui Cooper into Aerial Skiing.
