Rodney van Buizen

1980 -

Dual Olympian Rodney van Buizen won a silver medal for Australia in baseball in 2004. He was one of six players on the Athens team to have played at Sydney 2000, where the team finished seventh. From New South Wales, the shortstop was among Australia’s most consistent players in Athens. He hit 0.258 for the tournament and was equal third for runs batted in for the tournament, tying with team-mate Gavin Fingleson with nine. Australia upset Japan 1-0 in the semi-finals before losing the final to two-time Olympic champion Cuba 6-2. The silver remains Australia’s only Olympic baseball medal.
