Penny Taylor

Penny Taylor is one of the greatest basketball players produced by Australia. From Victoria, the forward won consecutive silver medals with the Opals in 2004 and 2008. Blessed with a brilliant all-round game, Taylor emerged as a star of the Opals after narrowly missing out on selection for the Sydney 2000 team, which won a silver medal. A severe ankle injury to Taylor in the quarter-finals in Beijing was a devastating set-back to the Opals, with the United States eventually defeating them in the gold medal final. Taylor was voted the Most Valuable Player of the tournament when Australia won a gold medal at the 2006 FIBA women’s world championships. As well as her success with the Opals, Taylor has enjoyed a decorated professional career in Australia, the WNBA in the United States and in Europe.
