Athlete Biography

Michael Delany proved himself a world-class swimmer in 1984 when he won a silver medal as part of Australia’s ‘Mean Machine’ – the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay team. Delany joined Neil Brooks, Mark Stockwell and Greg Fasala as among the most highly-publicised athletes on the Australian team. They lived up to the media-inspired hype, beating home everyone but the host nation, the United States. Delany also swam in the 100m freestyle event but did not qualify for the final despite winning his heat.
