Matthew Denny

In April 2016, teenager Matthew Denny won the national discus title with a throw of 60.47m. During the summer his personal best had reached 63.02m, still below the Olympic qualifying standard of 65.00m.

The Queenslander travelled to California in search of a qualifying throw, securing it with a new PB of 65.37m. He couldn’t quite recapture that form in Rio, finishing 12th in his qualifying round with a throw of 61.16 metres.
