When Mary Hanna competed at the Rio 2016 Olympics she made history, reaching the five Games milestone. The then 61-year-old was the oldest athlete on the 2016 Team. She also became Australia’s oldest Olympic equestrian, eclipsing the record set by Bill Roycroft.
Combining with her horse Boogie Woogie 6, she finished 9th in the team dressage event and 39th overall. Boogie Woogie 6 also recorded a personal best Grand Prix score of 69.643 per cent.
Hanna also competed in equestrian at the 1996 Atlanta, 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Olympic Games. Hanna’s highest individual dressage result was in Atlanta, riding Mosaic when she finished 24th. She returned at the 2000 Games aboard Limbo and finished 6th in the team event and 34th in the individual event on home soil. Hanna remained with Limbo for the Athens Games where she claimed 39th in the individual event. Riding horses since the age of two, Hanna was a state level pentathlete before committing to equestrian events.
