Madonna Blyth burst onto the hockey scene when she was 15, winning gold at the 2001 Australian Youth Olympic Festival. The Queensland midfielder won a gold medal with the Hockeyroos at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne before making her Olympic debut at the 2008 Beijing Games. The Hockeyeroos placed fifth in Beijing.
Blyth went on to compete at her second Olympics in London 2012, as captain of the women’s hockey team. Having only lost one game (by one goal) and only conceding two goals for the entire tournament (both from penalty corners), the Hockeyroos missed out on the medal rounds on a goal difference of one goal and finished in fifth position.
