Loudy Wiggins (Tourky)

Loudy Wiggins (nee Tourky) is a four-time Olympian with two Olympic medals to her name. She began her Olympic career at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and most recently contested the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Having finished 19th in the 3m springboard event on debut in 1996, Tourky (as she was then) teamed with Rebecca Gilmore to win the bronze medal in the women’s synchronised platform in 2000. The event was on debut in Sydney and the bronze medal was the first in diving by Australians since Richmond Eve’s gold medal in the plain high diving at Paris 1924. That night Gilmore and Tourky beat their teammates Robert Newbery and Dean Pullar into the record books- the Aussie men won bronze in the men’s synchronised springboard just a few hours later.

At Tourky’s second Games in Athens, she won bronze in the 10m platform behind teammate Chantelle Newbery (Michell) who won gold.

Tourky was aiming for her fourth consecutive Olympics when a serious calf injury at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Trials seemingly ended her career.

Having married AFL player Simon Wiggins and given birth to their first child Layla, Wiggins came out of retirement in 2011 to make a run for a fourth Olympic campaign. She combined with Rachel Bugg to win the 10m synchronised platform event at the London nomination trials and secure her place in the 2012 Team. In a hotly-contested straight final at the London Aquatic Centre, Wiggins and Bugg fell just short of the podium, finishing fourth.
