Kerry Hore

Kerry Hore entered into the Australian history books at Rio, as she became the first female rower to compete at four Olympic Games. Hore joined Madeleine Edmunds, Jessica Hall and Jennifer Clearly in the women’s quad scull which had a disappointing early exit from Games, finishing fifth in a tightly fought repechage. The crew powered out the start, up against crews from the Netherlands, Poland, Australia, USA and China. With 100 metres to go Australia, China and the USA were bow ball to bow ball, and the finish resulted in a photo-finish to decide who would join Poland and the Netherlands in the A-Final. Once the photos were back, it was declared that Australia had finished fifth, a mere 0.06 seconds behind China, and 0.11 seconds behind USA, who had nabbed the final two qualification spots. The result was somewhat unexpected as the crew had had a good lead-up to the Games, finishing with a silver medal at the final 2016 World Rowing Cup 3 in Poland, the last international racing event before the Games began.

Hore, who started rowing in 1997 at school, was part of the last women's crew to win a medal for Australia at an Olympic Games, when she combined with 2012 crew mate Dana Faletic, as well as Amber Bradley and Rebecca Sattin to win bronze in Athens 2004 in the women's quad scull.

One year earlier Hore made her senior World Championships debut at the age of 22 and won gold in Milan, Italy as part of the women's quad scull also featuring Faletic, Bradley and Jane Robinson.

Hore raced to a seventh place finish at the 2005 World Championships in the women's single scull, and after a year away from the sport, returned in 2007 to partner Amber Bradley to ninth in the women's double scull and qualify the boat for Beijing.

Hore was selected in the women's quad scull for the Beijing Olympic Games and London 2012 Olympic Games in the quad sculls, finishing sixth and fourth respectively.
