John Peers

John Peers made his Olympic debut at the Rio 2016 Games, in the men’s and mixed doubles.

Partnering with Chris Guccione in the men’s doubles, the duo went down in straight sets to the Argentinean pairing of Juan Martin Del Potro and Maximo Gonzalez.

He then combined with Sam Stosur in the mixed double and they were narrowly defeated by Indian fourth seeds Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna 5-7, 4-6 in their first round match.

The right-hander, with a two-handed backhand, turned pro in 2011. He broke into the top 500 in 2012

His mum, Elizabeth, played the sport professionally and they had a tennis court in their backyard growing up.
