Jodie Kenny (nee Shulz) made her second Olympic appearance in Rio 2016, less than 12 months after the defender was crowned 2015 Hockeyroo Player of the year.
The Aussies had a tough start to their 2016 Olympic campaign, going down 2-1 against both Great Britain and the USA in their opening two pool matches. Despite this disappointment, the side went on to secure three consecutive wins against India, Argentina and Japan, leaving them to face trans-tasman rivals New Zealand in the quarter final. Hopes of a medal finish were dashed as the Aussies went down 4-2 to the Kiwis, leaving the ladies to finish in 6th place.
In 2014 the defender was awarded the Hockeyroos World Cup Player of the Tournament after she helped Australia win silver in the Netherlands. The same year she won gold with the squad at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Kenny is the reigning Hockeyroo Top Goal Scorer, first taking out the title in 2014 (29 goals) and defending it in 2015 (22 goals).
Known for her impressive penalty corners, Kenny is one of six children in the Schulz family that play hockey. As a pre-international match ritual, she has to play Horses by Daryl Braithwate before she takes the pitch.
Aside from spending time with her husband Shane, Kenny enjoys spoiling her dog, Bruce the Bull Mastiff. She has a certificate three and four in fitness and is currently studying for a Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, with the aim to work in the sport and exercise industry in the future.
