Jenny Owens

Jenny Owens made her Olympic debut in Alpine Skiing at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games. Owens contested the Super-G, Super Combined, Giant Slalom and Downhill, with her best result being ninth in the Super Combined. The result was Australia’s second best in Olympic Alpine Skiing, behind Zali Steggall’s bronze in Nagano.

After retiring for a short time, Owens made the switch to the Freestyle Skiing discipline of Ski Cross which made its Olympic debut at the Vancouver Games. After entering the World Cup circuit in 2006, Owens made a number of podium finishes. At the Vancouver Games, following a long battle with injury, Owens finished 13th in the ski cross.

A year after the Vancouver Games and having had surgery on her injured knee, Owens returned to the World Cup circuit, winning bronze in February 2011 at Blue Mountain, Canada. In 2012, she had a breakthrough in competition, winning bronze at the X Games in Aspen, USA.

At her third and final Olympic campaign in Sochi, Russia, Owens had a performance to be proud of. Owens was second in her round of 32 final and just missed progressing into the semis from the quarter-final – finishing 12th overall.

After more than two decades at the top, 35-year-old Owens called time her career. “That’s it,” she declared. “That was really, really fun. I had a great time. Not the result that I was actually looking for but I gave it everything and I had a lot of fun.”

Owens was a member of the AOC Athletes' Commission from 2010 to 2014.
