Emily Bamford grew up on a horse racing farm in Doreen, Victoria. She joined the Mt Buller Race Club when she was nine years old. She also pursued equestrian (dressage) to a state level, however at age 15 she had to decide between equestrian and ski racing - she chose skiing and never looked back. She competed in the Junior World Championships in 2009 and 2011 on her way to senior racing and at the age of 21, Bamford made her Olympic debut in Alpine Skiing at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. She placed 50th in the Giant Slalom but was unlucky not to finish the Slalom event.
