There is a cool change on the Olympic horizon as the Winter Olympic Games head to Russia for the first time in 2014. Today marks the 500-days-to-go milestone on the road to Sochi. The Black Sea coastal city is preparing to welcome 5,500 Winter Olympic athletes including a mighty contingent of Australians in February 2014.

Australian aerial skier David Morris opens his World Cup campaign in Beida Lake, China, on Friday with the aim of becoming a consistent finalist throughout this season. The 26-year-old AIS scholarship holder from Mt Buller is competing in only his second World Cup season after making his mark last year with four finals appearances and a debut year- end world ranking of 15. He also finished 13th at the Vancouver Olympic Winter Games, just one place outside the finals.

Mogul Olympic gold and silver medalist Dale Begg-Smith has made a solid start to this year’s World Cup with a performance highlighted by well executed turns and jumps in Ruka, Finland, last night.The four-time World Cup champion recorded a sixth place in the season opener, with American Patrick Deneen, Canadian Mikael Kingsbury and Frenchman Guilbaut Colas finishing in the first three positions respectively.
