Team Selection - Sochi 2014
The AOC intends to send a full team to the 2014 Olympic Winter Games being held in Sochi, Russia from 7-23 February. The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games were Australia's best ever, with a record three (2 gold, 1 silver) medals and a string of top ten finishes. Australia matched its team size from Torino 2006 with 40 athletes - however for the first time ever there was gender equality in an Australian Olympic Team, with 20 men and 20 women.
(Full sport by sport selection documentation is below)
The AOC has exclusive responsibility for the representation of Australia at the Olympic Winter Games. Its objectives for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games are to:
i) place within the top 15 nations on total medal standings (for which it is anticipated 4 or more medals will be required); and
ii) win medals in more than 2 sports disciplines in which the Australian Olympic Winter Team won medals in 2010.
Team Selection is a 3 step process.
1/ Qualification (under the IF Qualification System)
2/ Nomination (under the NF Nomination Criteria)
3/ Selection (under the AOC Selection Criteria)
All of the relevant documentation regarding selection for the 2014 Australian Olympic Winter Team will be available from this area of the AOC website.
