Stephen Holt

1974 –

Stephen Holt won a bronze medal for Australia in men’s hockey at Sydney 2000. From the Northern Territory, Holt was a fine defender who had won a 1998 Commonwealth Games gold medal with the Kookaburras. In Sydney, the Kookaburras had three wins and two draws from its five preliminary round games. Its opponent in the semi-final was the Netherlands, the defending champion. No goal was scored in regular play, so the game was decided on penalties, with Australia losing 5-4. The team showed tremendous spirit to rebound for its bronze medal final, beating Pakistan 6-3 for its third consecutive Olympic medal.
